    Hi everyone,

Last night we tested out Discord in our weekly Heroes of the Storm inhouse night. I'd like to get everyone's opinion on Discord vs Teamspeak (post below!) and also please vote in the poll above. Once you've done so feel free to check out everyone else's arguments including mine below :emoji_slight_smile:

I'll refrain from mentioning features which both applications have.

    • Servers are Free!
    • Phone App is Free
    • Easily use multiple servers at once. Everyone is always available even if they are active elsewhere.
    • Awesome API (custom code and functions can be implemented). If we convert I'll be syncing the General chat with the shoutbox!
    • Decent UI at full screen
    • Chat has previews for links (Youtube, gifs, etc)
    • Emoticons are standard and you can upload custom emoticons
    • Join via a Web URL and use the application in your browser
    • Screen sharing coming soon (get those Skype converts)
    • UI is terrible when you shrink it to about 1/4-1/3 of a screen like you would use Teamspeak. Not responsive at all
    • No subchannels, organisation is a bit harder (coming soon though)
    • Data managed by third party
    • Server/role controls are very limited
    • Only a beeping noise available for people joining a channel
    • Company will likely be bought out at some stage in the next 3-5 years and then the direction is anyone's guess.
    • Server managed by us rather than a third party. Data is safe.
    • Multi-level subchannels available
    • Text to speech alerts available and customisable for all server events (connect, disconnect, join channel etc)
    • Narrow responsive UI lets you use monitor real estate more effectively, while still letting you stretch to full screen if desired
    • Server controls are incredibly extensive and customisable per role
    • Decade old program that is in dire need of a revamp. Clunky UI makes it hard to find things for newcomers
    • Costly server licensing ($175USD for 256 slots per year)
    • Joining method is somewhat archaic
    • Requires us to have a server setup to use
I may add to this list as I think of things. Post your opinions below!

With the little use I did the other night I feel likes it's a lot better and easier to chat with people.

Especially when playing on multiple programs like steam battle net/whatever

I currently use discord and think it's awesome! Just gotta monitor what people post in the chat thread as sometimes it can get nasstttyy.

Otherwise it's far more superior than TS3

I am all for it as it has more benefits over ts than cons, big thing is that it is still growing and updating and easy to use and access.. I am not fussy either way however but its definatly worth keeping an eye on.

I'm not fussed either way, but I have seen a bunch of us WoW players have been hanging out on Discord channels more than our own TeamSpeak channel.

Seems the case for most games, least with this if you are friends on discord u can see if they are online and a lot easier to switch over... so thats also a plus

I realise I'm new here so my vote won't count for much. But Discord is really good, IMO. Features-wise I think its only going to get better with time, and I already prefer it to TS. So that's my five cents.

Used Discord back in its infancy almost 2 years ago, was average at best then made me like Vent again haha, but changes were made fast & now a lot of communities, guilds & gaming groups have made the switch, there is a lot of pro's to make the move but having owned my own TS3 for a long time I always feel from a admin POV its much more in depth , even today that admin functionality isnt as strong in discord which in all honesty isnt a huge issue but something to consider. Either way the move shouldn't really effect anyone much from a user POV is functionality is very similar with some additional nice perks.
